2. What data we collect

2.1 When you visit the website

This website is hosted on Cloudflare Pages. Cloudflare may process technical data necessary to deliver content to your browser — including your IP address, browser type, operating system, referring page, and timestamps. This processing is performed by Cloudflare under its own privacy terms.

We use Cloudflare Web Analytics to count page visits and understand which pages and traffic sources our visitors come from. Cloudflare Web Analytics is privacy-first: it does not use cookies, does not store personal data such as IP addresses, does not fingerprint or identify individual users, and does not track users across sites. Aggregate metrics are processed by Cloudflare and made available to us.

We use only one piece of local browser storage (localStorage) to remember your light/dark theme preference. This is stored on your device only, never sent to us, and contains no personal data.

2.2 When you contact us

When you write to us by email or fill out a contact form, we receive and store the data you provide. Typically this includes:

• Your name and email address
• Your company, role, or other professional context you include
• The product, category, volume and country relevant to your sourcing enquiry
• The content of your message and any attachments

3. Why we process your data and on what legal basis

3.1 To respond to your enquiry

Legal basis: GDPR Article 6(1)(b) — processing necessary for the performance of a contract or pre-contractual steps at your request.

When you contact us about sourcing, supplier verification, or trade-show representation, we use your data to assess feasibility, prepare a memo, and continue the conversation.

3.2 To deliver an ongoing engagement

Legal basis: GDPR Article 6(1)(b) and 6(1)(c) — performance of contract and compliance with legal obligations.

If we proceed to a paid engagement, we process your data to perform the service, issue invoices, comply with VAT and accounting law, and meet customs and trade-documentation requirements.

3.3 To maintain business records

Legal basis: GDPR Article 6(1)(f) — legitimate interest in keeping records of business communications and potential leads, and Article 6(1)(c) for statutory retention obligations.

4. Who has access to your data

Your data is accessible to:

• Valentin Calko, Member of the Board, SIA Light Solutions
• Authorised employees and contractors of SIA Light Solutions involved in your specific enquiry or engagement

We use the following sub-processors to handle data on our behalf:

• Google LLC / Google Workspace — for our business email infrastructure (Gmail). Email content is stored on Google servers under Google's data-processing terms. Google Workspace operates EU data residency where required.
• Cloudflare, Inc. — for website hosting (Cloudflare Pages) and email routing infrastructure for our domain.

We do not sell, rent, or share your data with any third party for marketing purposes.

5. International transfers

Google LLC and Cloudflare, Inc. are US-based companies. Where personal data is transferred to the United States or other non-EU jurisdictions, the transfer is governed by standard contractual clauses approved by the European Commission and, where applicable, the EU–US Data Privacy Framework.

6. How long we keep your data

• Enquiries that did not result in a contract: kept for 24 months after our last contact, then deleted.
• Active and past clients: kept for the duration of the engagement and afterwards for as long as Latvian commercial and tax law requires (currently 5 years for accounting documentation, 10 years for certain VAT records).
• Browser theme preference: stored on your device only, removed when you clear your browser data.

7. Your rights under GDPR

You have the right to:

• Access — request a copy of the personal data we hold about you
• Rectification — ask us to correct inaccurate or incomplete data
• Erasure — ask us to delete your data ("right to be forgotten"), subject to our statutory retention obligations
• Restriction — ask us to limit how we use your data
• Portability — request your data in a structured, machine-readable format
• Objection — object to processing based on legitimate interest
• Withdraw consent — where processing is based on consent, withdraw it at any time

To exercise any of these rights, email hello@insidechina.eu with the subject line "Privacy request". We respond within one month, as required by GDPR Article 12(3).

8. Right to lodge a complaint

If you believe we have not handled your data properly, you have the right to lodge a complaint with the Latvian data protection authority:

9. Cookies

This website does not set any tracking cookies, advertising cookies, or persistent identifiers. We use Cloudflare Web Analytics for aggregate visit counting — it does not place cookies on your device, does not store personal data, and does not track you across other websites.

The only client-side storage we use is the browser's localStorage to remember your theme preference (light or dark). This is not a cookie and is not transmitted to any server.

We may update this policy when our processing activities change or to reflect updates in applicable law. The date below indicates when the policy was last revised. Material changes will be announced on this page.
